Choose thin Baltic Birch for a specified thin-panel job

Plan supported thin parts

Use this panel for cabinet backs, drawer bottoms and lightweight components when your design specifies 5 mm Baltic Birch. Check support, captured edges and loading rather than treating the thickness name as a load rating.

Allow for the unfinished BB/BB faces

Both birch faces are sanded and unfinished. BB/BB grading permits sound patches. Review the appearance before choosing a clear finish, and follow the finishing product instructions for the intended application.

Match your machining to 5 mm material

A 5 mm panel and a nominal quarter-inch panel are not interchangeable in a groove. Measure the supplied sheets before machining; check support and finish requirements as well as the nominal thickness.

The quarter-inch birch and white melamine sheets have one finished face. There is no 6 mm Baltic Birch in this mapped range. The 21 mm option is unfinished BB/BB only. Inch names are nominal catalog labels, not exact conversions of the metric specifications. Check product details for tolerances.

Questions about 3/16″ plywood

Is 3/16-inch Baltic Birch the same as 5 mm?

This catalog sells the 5 mm option under a nominal 3/16-inch label. The figures are not exact unit conversions: an exact 3/16 inch is 4.7625 mm. Use the listed specification and measure the supplied panel for fit.

Is the 3/16-inch sheet prefinished?

No. It has sanded, unfinished birch faces. It is neither UV-coated nor melamine-faced. Choose and apply the finish required for your project.

What does BB/BB mean?

Both faces are BB grade, which permits sound patches. The two faces are usable but should not be described as patch-free B/B faces.

Can I use the same ply count as the thicker Baltic sheets?

Do not apply the 13-ply or 15-ply specification of a thicker panel to this 5 mm variant. Confirm the thin-panel construction when your project calls for a particular ply count.
