Baltic Birch BB/BB vs B/BB Plywood

The main difference is the face veneer. BB/BB has BB-grade faces on both sides, where small sound patches may be visible. B/BB has one cleaner B-grade show face and a BB-grade back. Choose by the appearance each side of your project needs.

Choose BB/BB

BB-grade faces meet your needs

A practical choice for cabinet boxes, drawer boxes, shelving, and shop projects when visible patches are acceptable on either face.

Choose B/BB

One face needs a cleaner appearance

A better fit for exposed cabinet ends, furniture panels, and other parts where a cleaner show face matters and a BB-grade back is acceptable.

Both sides will be visible? Judge the appearance required on each side. BB/BB does not promise two patch-free faces, and B/BB does not provide two B-grade faces.

BB / BB

What Is Baltic Birch BB/BB Plywood?

BB/BB means both faces are graded BB. The veneer may contain small, football-shaped patches used to repair natural defects. These sound patches are part of the surface appearance, not a promise of a completely clear face.

BB/BB is commonly used for cabinet boxes, drawer boxes, shelving, and woodworking projects where BB-grade surfaces are acceptable. Either face can be used as a visible surface when its appearance meets your project requirements.

Choose it for the face quality you need—not simply because two sides will be visible.

B / BB

What Is Baltic Birch B/BB Plywood?

B/BB has one cleaner B-grade face and a BB-grade back. The first grade identifies the front veneer and the second identifies the back. The BB side can still contain visible sound patches.

It is often selected for exposed cabinet ends, furniture panels, shelving, and other components where one surface needs a cleaner appearance. Plan your cuts so the cleaner face is oriented toward the visible side.

The cleaner face is still unfinished. Face grade and surface finish are different choices.

Grade questions

BB/BB vs B/BB: Common Questions

Is B/BB always the better choice?
Not for every project. B/BB gives you one cleaner show face. BB/BB can be the appropriate choice when BB-grade faces and visible patches meet the requirements of the parts you are building.
Which grade should I use when both sides are visible?
Check the appearance required on both sides. BB/BB has BB-grade faces on both sides; B/BB has only one B-grade face. Neither label promises two patch-free show faces.
Will a clear finish hide the patches in BB/BB plywood?
The patches may still be visible under a clear finish. Review a representative surface or sample before choosing a grade for an appearance-sensitive project.
Does B/BB mean the plywood is already finished?
No. B/BB describes the face and back grades. The BB/BB and B/BB products compared here are unfinished panels, so the grade label is separate from any paint, stain, or clear finish you choose to apply.
